Organised Social Play
Scarborough Tennis Club Members can take advantage of organised social play all year round (weather permitting).
Weekend social tennis is followed by socialising over drinks from the club bar.
Times
Tuesday 9:30am - 12:30pm
Saturday 1:00pm - 5:30pm
Sunday 1:30pm - 5:00pm
Note: Organised social play is generally not organised on public holidays.
Format
All organised social play is doubles play - both mixed and same sex. Sets last for 30 mins each, so over the course of an afternoon you get to play with many different people.
All members are allocated a membership number and a playing grade which is based on Tennis West's recommendations for classifying players abilities in a social environment. We use a computer system (Perfect Match) to organise social sets with the emphasis on balancing the doubles teams so that all players get good quality tennis with a range of players.
In addition to the regular social days we also provide throughout the season:
- Twighlight tennis
- Club tournaments: Ranging from fun events and Handicap tournaments through to the annual Club Championships
- Visits to other clubs:Scarborough traditionally has a large contingent of players who go to country based tournaments like Busselton, Geraldton and Bridgetown as well as visiting many metropolitan clubs.
Here are some photos of our social players in action:

Private Social Play
Outside of organised social times, members are able to make use of any unused courts for their own social play. There are always plenty of members keen for someone to hit with, so be sure to ask around.
Members who wish to play with non-members on the grass courts must pay a $10 fee per visitor per visit – to be passed onto a committee member at the earliest opportunity.
If playing on the grass courts, members are responsible for making sure everyone in their party has correct grass court footwear.
Court Access for private play
Grass Courts
Grass Courts are available for private social play only outside of organised social play times, ie:
- Tuesday afternoon through to Friday during daylight hours.
- Saturday and Sunday mornings.
As Grass courts are sensitive to wear, and get heavy use during the season, it is important that the following rules are observed:
- Do not play on grass courts if they are wet.
- Please make sure you wear proper tennis shoes on these courts (without deep tread).
- Do not use the grass courts for drills as this leads to heavy wear along the baseline.
Hard and Synthetic Courts
The Tennis Academy has priority use of the hard and synthetic courts on week days, but members can make use of any spare courts free of charge during daylight hours.
During peak times (4pm - 10pm Mon - Fri) it is advisable to book if you wish to ensure access to one of these courts. Members get a discounted booking fee of $6 per hr during day and $12 per hr under lights.
During organised social play times, the club has priority access to the hard / synthetic courts. Members who wish to play with family or friends during organised social times may do so if hard / synthetic courts are available, but must pay the full $12 per hr hire charge for the court. Money can be paid to the club member on duty.
