Strategic Planning
During February and March 2010, the Scarborough Tennis Division engaged in a series of Strategic Planning sessions, involving the wider membership group, aimed at setting the direction of the club for the next five years.
The three sessions that were held attracted very good attendance (35 – 40 people per session), and generated lots of positive debate around the future of the club.
Karen Caddy, who facilitated the sessions, has produced a report summarising the key findings and her recommendations going forward. This is posted below. Note: The recommendations noted here are Karen's, and have not yet been ratified by the committee.
Further details on the individual sessions are provided below:
Session 1 was held on Monday 15th February. Speakers representing the Tennis Club Committee, Tennis West, the City of Stirling and the Scarborough Sportsmans Club provided background information on the club and the wider context in which it operates. These presentations, modified to include some additional information, can be viewed or downloaded by clicking on the links below:
Since the presentation, Tennis West has provided additional information on the National Court Rebate Scheme, Facility Loan Scheme, and the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund. Via these schemes, Scarborough Tennis may be able to access financial assistance to upgrade our facilities. These documents can be found below:
At Session 2 held on the 21st February, we conducted a SWOT analysis on the club...looking at the current Strengths and Weaknesses of the club, and future Opportunities and Threats. The results of that session can be viewed via the link below:
Prior to Session 3, which was held on Sunday 7th March, Karen Caddy summarised the improvement ideas from Session 2 into some key options. At Session 3, the attendees were split into 6 groups, and each group was asked to reach consensus on what actions, if any, we should take wrt each option. The document below shows the group-by-group outcomes from Session 3:
The grounds and buildings occupied by the Scarborough Tennis Club belong to the crown and are managed by the City of Stirling. Following Session 3, Karen had two meetings with the City of Stirling; one with officers from Leisure and Recreation Services (Simone Pastor and Jim McNeilly) and one with Bill Stewart – Coastal Ward Councillor. The purpose of the meetings was to get their feedback on the options that came out of our planning process.
Additional Information:
The City of Stirling have recently released a Public Open Space Strategy document which provides overarching guidelines for the use of development of areas such as Abbott Park. This document can be accessed on the City of Stirling website, via the following link:

It is important for all organisations, including clubs, to have a Strategic Plan to guide their activities.
The Scarborough Tennis Division Planning process engaged club members to develop a vision for our Club in 5 years time, and develop a plan to turn it into reality.
Thanks to all those that took the time to be involved.
